Complete Virgilio Mail Setup Guide: Webmail Login, PEC, IMAP, POP3, and App Settings

virgilio mail login

Need help with Virgilio Mail login or email settings? You can access your mailbox through a browser, a phone app, or a desktop email client such as Outlook and Thunderbird.

The setup depends on the type of account you have. A standard Virgilio Mail account uses different server settings from Virgilio PEC, the certified email service used for formal communications in Italy.

This guide covers Virgilio Webmail login, password recovery, PEC setup, IMAP and POP3 settings, SMTP configuration, and mobile email apps. It includes the current server details and steps to fix common login problems.

How to Access Virgilio Mail & Webmail Login

Virgilio Mail lets you read and send messages through its webmail site or a supported email app.

For browser access, visit the official Virgilio Mail login page. Sign in with your registered email address or the username accepted by the login page.

Step-by-Step Login to Virgilio Webmail

Follow these steps for Virgilio Mail login:

  1. Open the official Virgilio Mail login page.
  2. Enter your full email address, such as yourname@virgilio.it.
  3. Click Avanti or the next button shown on the page.
  4. Enter your password when asked.
  5. Complete any security check shown on the screen.
  6. Wait for your inbox to load.

If you search for Virgilio Mail accedi or Virgilio Webmail login, use the official sign-in page rather than an unfamiliar link from a search result.

Keep your login details private. Avoid signing in on public computers unless necessary, and sign out when you finish.

Troubleshooting Virgilio Mail Login Issues & Password Recovery

A failed login does not always mean your account is blocked.

Check these common causes first:

  • Incorrect email address: Enter the full address, including @virgilio.it, or use the accepted account nickname.
  • Wrong password: Check for typing errors and make sure Caps Lock is off.
  • Old saved password: Update the password stored in your browser or email app if you changed it recently.
  • Browser issue: Try an updated browser or open a private browsing window.
  • Account suspension: If Virgilio reports unusual activity or a suspended mailbox, contact support through Virgilio Aiuto.

Virgilio provides an official password recovery page and a password recovery guide.

Enter your email address and follow the recovery steps. You may need access to your backup email address or mobile number. If you have no recovery details, Virgilio may ask you to prove your identity with a valid identity document.

Virgilio Password Sicura & Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Virgilio offers a feature called Password Sicura. It adds a second check to your normal login.

After entering your username and password, you may need a verification code sent by SMS. Virgilio supports backup codes and codes generated with Google Authenticator for supported access methods.

You can learn more or activate it through the official Virgilio Password Sicura page.

Important for email apps: If Password Sicura is enabled, third-party apps and desktop clients require a separate 16-character app password. Generate it from Virgilio’s security settings and enter it in your email app instead of your usual password.

Virgilio PEC Login & Setup

Virgilio PEC is different from standard Virgilio Mail. PEC means Posta Elettronica Certificata, or certified email.

It provides certified sending and delivery receipts. When both sides use certified email, these receipts can serve as legal evidence of the sending and delivery events.

How to Access Your Virgilio PEC Webmail Account

Use the dedicated Virgilio PEC login page.

  1. Open the PEC login page.
  2. Enter your complete PEC email address.
  3. Enter your PEC mailbox password.
  4. Complete two-step verification if it is enabled.

Do not use your standard Virgilio Mail password by mistake. The two mailboxes use separate credentials. If you recently bought a PEC account and cannot access it, check whether you have completed the required identity verification.

Virgilio PEC Server Parameters for Third-Party Apps

To use Virgilio PEC with Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or a phone app, enter the following official settings.

SettingIMAP (Incoming)POP3 (Incoming)SMTP (Outgoing)
Servermail.postacert.it.netmail.postacert.it.netmail.postacert.it.net
Port993995465
SecuritySSL/TLSSSL/TLSSSL/TLS
AuthenticationPasswordPasswordRequired

Use your complete PEC address as the username. If you have enabled two-step verification for PEC, generate an app-specific password in the PEC settings and use it in your email client.

Managing Virgilio PEC Subscriptions and Storage Settings

You can check your mailbox size and used storage from the PEC interface. The available space depends on your subscription.

Virgilio PEC includes settings for changing your mailbox password, creating app passwords when needed, setting mail rules, forwarding copies of received PEC messages, and managing ordinary email.

Keep your acceptance and delivery receipts for formal messages. The acceptance receipt records that the PEC system accepted a message for sending. The delivery receipt confirms that it reached the recipient’s PEC mailbox. Delivery does not prove that the recipient read it.

Do not treat your mailbox as a permanent archive. Keep separate copies of important messages and their receipts, especially for legal, tax, business, or government matters.

Standard Virgilio Mail Server Settings: IMAP, POP3 & SMTP

If you want to configure Virgilio Mail manually, use the official server values below.

Important update: From October 13, 2026, Virgilio requires third-party email apps to use its correct connection settings. A client that worked with old or automatic settings may stop connecting until you update it. Browser webmail and the official app do not need these manual changes.

Virgilio IMAP Settings (Recommended for Multi-Device Sync)

IMAP keeps messages synchronised between the Virgilio server and supported devices. If you read a message on your phone, the same mailbox view can update on your computer.

FieldValue
Incoming serverin.virgilio.it
Port993
SecuritySSL/TLS
UsernameFull Virgilio Mail address
PasswordAccount password or required app password

Virgilio recommends IMAP for most users who check email on more than one device.

Virgilio POP3 Settings (Single-Device Download)

POP3 downloads messages to a configured device. Depending on the client settings, downloaded messages may no longer remain available on the server or other devices.

FieldValue
Incoming serverin.virgilio.it
Port995
SecuritySSL/TLS
UsernameFull Virgilio Mail address
PasswordAccount password or required app password

Choose POP3 only if you understand how your email client handles server copies. Do not switch an existing account from POP3 to IMAP without checking the risk of losing messages stored only on that device.

Virgilio SMTP Settings (Sending Mail)

SMTP handles outgoing messages. Authentication must be enabled.

FieldValue
Outgoing serverout.virgilio.it
Port465
SecuritySSL/TLS
AuthenticationRequired
UsernameFull Virgilio Mail address
PasswordAccount password or required app password

The current official Virgilio guide lists port 465 with SSL/TLS. Use this configuration instead of relying on an older port value saved by your email app.

Desktop Client Configuration Guides

Most email clients offer automatic setup. If automatic detection fails, choose manual setup and enter the server values above.

Use the official Gmail for Android guide or Samsung Email guide if your screen differs.
