What is Roasting?
Roasting is a cooking method that is used to prepare food that has a firm structure before being cooked. For instance, dishes like chicken, meat, beef, vegetables, potato, and other ingredients are cooked using this method. Roasting is usually done uncovered. The meals which are being roasted usually require a temperature of at least 400° F in the oven. It is a suitable method for firm meals and thus the outside structure has a hint of caramelization and a crispy texture. The term “roast” is derived from the German word “Rosten” which means ‘to grill’ or ‘to cook on a grate’ or in usual terms ‘to cook over an open fire’. In contrast to Baking, roasting is a fast process as the food is roasted fastly in comparison to being baked.
What is Baking?
Baked foods are usually those that lack original structure at the time of preparation. They include cakes, cookies, brownies, and cupcakes. The pans are occasionally covered when the baking is completed. It is often done at temperatures that are equal to or lower than 375° F in the oven. It has a notable advantage over roasting in that it is better for soft food like batters and doughs. The term “bake” is derived from the proto-Germanic word ”Bakan” which means to ‘be warm’. It takes some time to prepare and hence is a slower method than cooking.
