What is Cocoa?
Cocoa is a powdery substance that is prepared from cocoa beans. The natural cocoa is bitter and dark with little or no cocoa butter mixed in it. On the other hand, Dutch cocoa is less bitter and lighter and has no cocoa butter in it. The word cocoa is derived from the Spanish word cacao. The color of cocoa is between moderate brown and reddish-brown. It has no or very little better in its formulation as the cocoa butter is removed from the cocoa beans while processing it. It is a healthy product because it does not contain cocoa butter. Additionally, the drinks made from cocoa have fewer calories and fat with no sugar. It also has antioxidants. A cocoa drink mainly contains cocoa and milk or hot water with a sweetener added to it. The natural cocoa powder is not alkalized and thus contains a higher level of cocoa flavanols.
