What is Drink?

Any consumable liquid that can be used for quenching thirst is referred to as a drink. Drinks include a variety of liquids such as juice, coffee, tea, water, etc. Additionally, it can be of various types such as alcoholic drinks, flavored drinks, carbonated drinks, cold drinks, fizzy drinks, etc. Different countries have their specialty in drinks as it depends on ingredients, weather, climate, preference of people, etc. Drinks are very important because they help maintain the balance of liquid in the body and in digesting food. Drinks are made using several processes that can affect their taste and texture of it. These processes include carbonation, purification, pasteurization, juicing, infusion, fermentation, and others. 

What is Beverage? 

A beverage is a type of drink that is processed but does not include water. Some examples of beverages include tea, coffee, beer, soft drinks, etc. Beverages are usually known as brewed drinks that include tea or coffee but it does not necessarily include alcohol in them. This is the reason Beer is not a beverage as it is not a hot drink and it contains alcohol in it. There is very little difference between drink and beverage which you can remember as beverages do not include water and when we make a drink through a process in water with other ingredients, it becomes a beverage. Beverages like tea and coffee make everyone refreshed as the ingredients present in them provide energy to the body and mind along with increasing the activeness of the body.

Main Differences between Beverage and Drink

  • The drink is a broader term that comprises all types of consumable liquid along with water while the beverage is a type of drink that does not contain lead water in it.
  • Drink encompasses all types of alcohol in it while beverages include only a few drinks that contain alcohol like beer.
  • Drinks are simply processed while beverages are usually brewed or percolated.
  • In English, the word drink can be used as both a noun and a verb but the word beverage is used only as a noun.
  • Drinks can be of various types while beverages are usually specified as drinks that are brewed.
  • Examples of drinks include alcohol, water, soft drink, tea, coffee, etc while examples of beverages include coffee, tea, beer, etc.
  • Drinks can be used to describe on a menu and to offer a drink at an event while beverages are formal commercial descriptions of refreshments offered on a menu or branded item. 
  • There are many idioms, proverbs, and sayings available related to the term drink while there are only a few sayings but no idiom available for the term beverage.

Although drinks and beverages are quite similar to each other, the only difference between them is that a drink includes water while beverages do not include water.
